Huddersfield Giants can’t seem to find any luck on or off the field at the minute, with the club’s plans for building a new stadium hitting a major roadblock.
Luke Robinson’s side are currently going through an unprecedented injury crisis, with 15 players sidelined for various different issues.
The Giants are yet to win in Super League 2026, and that trend doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon, despite the club’s best efforts in bringing in bodies to help fill the squad.
Now though, not only is their on-field situation at an all-time low, but their plan off the field have been hampered too.
Throughout 2025, Giants chairman Ken Davy has insisted that the club will build a new stadium for suitable for the Giants needs, thus creating for a better atmosphere for fans in the hope it can breathe new life into the club.
A plan for the stadia was originally drafted up, and Davy was hoping to use the currently vacant former gasworks site in the middle of Huddersfield, with the plan being to create a purpose-built 8,000-seater stadium on the plot of land.
Kirklees Council have been sceptical of the idea since it was brought forward, with the local body aiming to use the area for something more beneficial to the town.
In what is a blow to Davy’s plans to rebuild the club, the Council are set to have a meeting next week to discuss whether to go ahead with putting the plot of land to good use but it will not be a stadium for the Giants.
The former gasworks facility is set to be turned into a new employment hub focused on health innovation, life sciences and advanced manufacturing, per Yorkshire Live.
The plan, made by the Council, will be considered by Cabinet on Tuesday 24 March, with a decision set to be agreed and formalised in that meeting.
Huddersfield have already confirmed that the 2026 season will be the last the club play at the Accu Stadium, and in 2027 the expectation is that they will be housed at The Shay, home of Halifax Panthers and FC Halifax Town.
Davy and Huddersfield are still on the look-out for a new plot of land to build the stadium, and the Council’s decision is a huge stumbling block in the club’s rebuild plans.

Whatever it is, Huddersfield are cursed, it’s beyond ridiculous, nothing seems to go their way. Did someone drive over a black cat, under a series of ladders before crashing into a mirror factory on Friday 13th?
