Niall Evalds is in contention to make his first appearance in four months this week when Huddersfield Giants host Wakefield Trinity. The full-back has been named in Luke Robinson’s 21-man squad after breaking his foot on his debut for the Giants back in March.
The full-back joined the Giants on loan from Hull KR just days before making his first and only Huddersfield appearance and should he be passed fit to play on Friday night, he’ll be keen to make an impression.
Evalds’ inclusion comes as a big boost for the Giants, who have also seen Sam Hewitt ruled out for the season with a broken jaw. Hewitt left the field in the first half of Friday’s defeat at Wigan Warriors and was taken to hospital with a suspected fracture. That news has now been confirmed with the back-rower set to miss the remainder of the campaign.
Joe Greenwood has also dropped out of the Huddersfield fold due to a head knock, while Elliot Wallis, who failed to make a first-team appearance during a loan at Leeds Rhinos earlier in the season, returns to the Huddersfield fold.
Wakefield boss Daryl Powell has also welcomed players back from injury. The Trin see Jake Trueman, Renouf Atoni and Matty Storton return from injury in what come as huge boosts ahead of their trip to the newly named Accu Stadium.
Atoni and Storton have both been out long-term, with the latter missing since the fourth round Challenge Cup tie at Hudddersfield back in March. Trueman on the other hand, has been out since picking up a concussion at Hull KR in June.
Oliver Russell, who is playing his second game on loan at Salford Red Devils this week, and Noah High drop out, while the groin issue that kept Tom Johnstone out of last week’s game at Hull FC, will be enough to see him miss this week’s game, too.
