Hull KR boss Willie Peters expects Huddersfield Giants to arrive at Craven Park with renewed confidence and self belief. Rovers take on Luke Robinson’s side this evening and they’ll fancy their chances of being able to strengthen their position at the top of Super League.
KR have led the way all season and while Wigan Warriors’ win over Leigh Leopards saw the Robins slip into second on points difference, they know a result would see them finish round 11 two points clear.
They take on a Huddersfield side who have been the whipping boys of the division for much of the season with a raft of injuries impacting their form on the field. They picked up their first win of the campaign last time out, though, against Hull FC and with the treatment room starting to clear out, it’s fair to say Robinson’s men will make the journey with a spring in their step.
“I’m expecting a good Huddersfield team,” Peters said when previewing this weekend’s game. “They’ve got all their players back now pretty much so they’re going to be a different team to when we played them earlier in the season because of the injury crisis they had.
“They’re coming off a win against FC, they’ve had the week off and they’ll be fresh so we’re expecting Huddersfield’s best team.
“There’s no doubt the win will have given them a kick start and some confidence. We need to look at us and think ‘right, we’ve just had a good positive win as well as we need to back it up’.
“We need to draw from that energy and draw from what we did on the weekend and especially in the second half. They’re coming to our place and we need to make sure that when they get here, they’re going to get the best version of us.”
Hull KR boss has squad plan ahead of Challenge Cup final
Rovers’ victory last week saw them book a spot in the Challenge Cup final and with that date at Wembley looming in just three weeks’ time, KR players could be forgiven for having one eye on the final.
Peters will be keen for his squad to focus on the here and now, of course, with three games still to play before taking on Warrington Wolves at the national stadium, but he admits he does have a strategy to manage his squad and keep things fresh heading into the final.
“We do have a plan,” he said. “It’s three weeks away so there’s still plenty to be played but we just make sure as staff that we’re doing all the planning behind the scenes and working out what we want to do team wise and then all the logistics behind the scenes and keep that away from the players.
“Obviously you need a plan and make sure we’re ready to go in three weeks’ time.”
