Huddersfield Giants sign versatile outside back to new two-year deal

Huddersfield Giants have signed up one of their homegrown outside backs to a new two-year contract ahead of the 2026 season.

The club have promoted a number of their academy products to the first team in recent months and years with Luke Robinson actually forced to utilise the Huddersfield academy a lot more in 2025 due to the Giants‘ horrific injury issues.

That meant young players such as half-back Marshall Land and winger Lewis Jagger were handed debuts as teenagers, and the latter has now signed a new two-year deal with the club.

A club statement confirmed: “Promising winger Lewis Jagger has become the next Academy product to sign a full-time two year contract with the club, effective immediately.”

Jagger debuted for the Giants in 2025, scoring against Leigh on his debut in a very impressive performance and he’s now penned a new deal with a view that he can continue to work hard and break into the first team.

The new deal for Jagger comes just days after the club signed George Flanagan to a new long-term deal.

Teenage back signs new Huddersfield Giants deal

Jagger has a number of players ahead of him in the pecking order at Huddersfield with the Giants boasting wingers such as Adam Swift, Sam Halsall, Connor Carr and even Jacob Gagai, however, Jagger is viewed as a versatile back who can play at either centre or full-back as well, something Luke Robinson pointed to.

Speaking about the teen’s new deal, Robinson said: “Lewis is a comfortable centre of full-back, and we see his talent and want him around the first team so he is able to learn and be guided from one of this clubs’ great outside backs in Leroy.”

Robinson also revealed that Jagger will grow more in the coming year, particularly after the completion of his A-levels, at which point he will be in the first team environment even more.

He said: “He’s a local lad and that’s who we want to be investing in at this club, a young English outside back, we put him in without any training sessions last year and look at how he performed.

“After he’s completed his a-levels we want him around the first team as much as possible, he can beat a man and when he gets older and bulks up he’ll be a massive threat to other teams.”

Reacting to his new deal, Jagger said: “I’m absolutely buzzing, it’s a dream come true for me and to finally have the contract signed, it’s a huge relief and now i can focus on working hard and building myself up to break into the first team in the future.”
