Huddersfield Giants have picked up one of the Championship’s top performers, and have brought him in on loan for the remainder of the season.
Oldham RLFC’s Cole Geyer will make the move up to Super League, as he joins Liam Finn’s side for the rest of 2026.
Geyer only joined the second tier in the off-season, having previously played for Burleigh Bears in the Queensland Cup.
The hooker has made 14 appearances for Alan Kilshaw’s side this term, scoring five tries.
The 24-year-old actually lives with current Giants player, Tristan Powell, with the pair being friends from back in Australia.
Oldham have reiterated that the current ongoings around the club have nothing to do with Geyer’s departure, with clubs circling around him for the past few weeks.
He has now earned his opportunity to play in Super League and will compete with Zac Woolford and Kieran Rush for a spot in the 17.
Championship star Cole Geyer joins Huddersfield Giants
Interim Giants boss Finn, who is still uncertain about his future at the helm, commented on the signing, saying: We’re really pleased to have Cole a part of this group.
“He’s ready for the step up to Super League and will add some quality to our squad, which hasn’t been the biggest so it’s a welcome addition.
“It’s an opportunity for us to look at Cole and for himself to see what Super League is like, we know he wil put his best foot forward and prove he belongs in Super League, we’re happy to have him as a part of this group and he will come straight into contention for our next game.”
Roughyeds boss Kilshaw also gave an explanation, saying: “Cole came over to the UK to play at the highest level and has aspirations of playing Super League.
“He has been an outstanding player for us and he has earned that opportunity with the Giants. Cole still remains our player and we are happy for him to go and get that experience and show what he can do at the highest level.
“With the recall option in place, it gives us an opportunity to call him back potentially at the back end of the season, or when his commitments have finished with Huddersfield Giants leading into a potential play-off campaign.”
