Huddersfield Giants put end to contract questions as they confirm star’s two-year deal

Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield Giants have ended any further speculation by signing one of their star players to a two-year deal.

Niall Evalds has been on loan at Huddersfield since March, making the swap from Hull KR after the Robins landed the signing of Arthur Mourgue.

Evalds would debut for the Giants in Round Five but broke his foot, an injury that sidelined him until Round 19 and mid-July when Huddersfield would take on Wakefield Trinity.

Unfortunately for both Huddersfield and Evalds, his injury woes would continue as he limped off just minutes into the game and was confirmed to have a season-ending calf injury.

That led to questions of Hull KR boss Willie Peters with the Australian quizzed about the future of Evalds given he was contracted to the club at the time, albeit only till the end of the year.

Peters played it close to his cards, confirming Evalds would not be a Hull KR player in 2026 and that he was unsure what had been announced by Huddersfield so wouldn’t comment.

Huddersfield Giants confirm Niall Evalds contract

The Giants have now made their announcement, confirming that Niall Evalds has signed a two-year contract with the club meaning he’s tied down until the end of the 2027 season.

Having been one of Super League’s finest full-backs in 2024, scoring 10 tries and registering even more assists, Evalds will be hoping that he can rekindle that form after his rehab and a full pre-season with his new club.

He outlined those plans when speaking to the club, pointing to his difficult start but also the key to success at Hull KR and how he plans to replicate it.

“The start of my Giants career hasn’t gone particularly to plan, but I’m here for the longer term and I’m working really hard in rehab to get back stronger for next year,” Evalds explained.

“I look at my time with KR and I had an undisrupted pre-season, and a really good year off the back of that, so my focus is to nail pre-season and not miss any sessions through injury. That’s where the relationships are made in pre-season and the foundations are built to avoid what I’ve been through this year.

“I’m excited for pre-season and getting back into full training with the boys and have a full pre-season to get things right.”
