Huddersfield Giants pair Jack Billington and Darius Carter have signed for Championship side Sheffield Eagles on loan. The youngsters have joined the Eagles for the remainder of the season and they’ll hope to catch the eye under head coach Craig Lingard.

Both have been in and around the first team picture at the John Smith’s Stadium, with Billington making seven appearances for the Giants this season alone. All of those outings came off the bench with the forward’s last outing coming against Leeds Rhinos in Rivals Round.

Carter hasn’t featured for the first-team this season but he has been named in squads to hammer home how close he has been to making a Super League appearance.

The pair go straight into consideration for this weekend’s Championship clash with London Broncos and are expected to make their debut for the club. The Eagles have had a tough start to the Championship season and after eight games they have amassed just four points, with wins coming over Featherstone Rovers and Batley Bulldogs.

As such, they’ll be keen to find some form and build momentum over the coming weeks and they’ll be hoping the additions of Billington and Carter can help them do that.

Carter does lack first-team experience with his one and only senior outing coming last season in a heavy Super League loss to Warrington Wolves. However, he has also represented Jamaica at international level, with the youngster getting a run out last year against Wales.

Billington does have more experience and having penned a new deal back in March, he’s very highly thought of at Huddersfield. He has made 21 Championship appearances in the past, with previous loans coming at Barrow Raiders and Dewsbury Rams and he managed to score five tries for the latter last season.

He also made his bow for the Giants last season, featuring in two games, both against Warrington. Both men will hope Luke Robinson keeps a keen eye on their progress at the Eagles.
