Huddersfield Giants owner and their newly-appointed advisor Ralph Rimmer have commented on the proposed stadium move to The Shay.
The Giants are looking to build a new stadium but they will need a temporary home whilst that new ground is being built, something that has seen them propose a move to Halifax Panthers’ stadium The Shay.
It would be a ground share with the Panthers and Halifax Town Football Club and recently, the Giants appointed former RFL CEO Ralph Rimmer to a role to help facilitate that.
Rimmer recently explained: “I’ve been involved in rugby league a long time, but I also had a fair stint in stadia development. Ken wants me to help shape all of that [new stadium] and give Richard [Thewlis] a hand here and there as well.”
Now, both Rimmer and Davy have attended The Shay to provide an update on the developments and the proposed temporary move.

A club statement from Huddersfield Giants has explained the purpose and findings of Davy and Rimmer’s visit, with the latter talking about the work that had been done.
Rimmer said: “It’s a brilliant stadium. I’ve been coming to the Shay a long, long time and the new pitch looks stunning. It’s far and away a massive improvement on the previous pitch, It’s brilliant.”
“I think it’s typical of Ken to put the building blocks in place for the benefit of both FC Halifax Town and the Halifax Panthers as well delivering a fantastic facility which could offer some great opportunities for the Giants in the future. It’s a major part of the stadium strategy that we are working on at this moment in time.”
Davy has spoken on the developments made, explaining: “The pitch is looking brilliant, the grass is growing and the weather conditions are perfect. What we don’t see is that 90% of the work has been changing the drainage system.
“That has all had to be revisited and dramatically improved. The days of both seeing matches cancelled due to the pitch are hopefully, gone forever. That will be of great benefit to both the clubs, their supporters and to Calderdale as a whole.
“We anticipate that when all the work is completed, The Shay is going to be a temporary home for the Giants, so putting these facilities in place now with much more to come to meet the requirements of Super League is key. There will be much more happening in the months to come.”
