Huddersfield Giants v Leigh Leopards team news as star returns and signing set for debut

Super League strugglers Huddersfield Giants host Leigh Leopards on Thursday night and both coaches have confirmed their 21-man squads.

Leigh have slipped to fourth after three consecutive defeats whilst hosts Huddersfield have lost two on the bounce after their first win of the Super League season at Magic Weekend.

That win came against Hull FC, the team that made the Leopards look ordinary last Thursday but Leigh will view this as a chance to get back in the win column and leapfrog Leeds Rhinos.

As for Huddersfield, they’re looking to distance themselves from the foot of the table with just points difference keeping them above Salford.

The Giants have recently signed a ‘powerhouse’ from Down Under with Tristan Powell expected to be in line to debut this Thursday, whereas Leigh will be hoping that star man David Armstrong comes back into the mix after missing out last week.

Huddersfield Giants team news

Oliver Wilson was hooked against St Helens with the prop having suffered back injuries lately, however, he has been named by Luke Robinson to face Leigh along with new recruit Tristan Powell.

Powell replaces Jack Murchie in the only change made by Luke Robinson. Murchie hadn’t played against St Helens anyway on account of injury.

Meanwhile, Matty English, Aidan McGowan, Fenton Rogers, Liam Sutcliffe and Niall Evalds all remain out due to injury.

Huddersfield Giants 21-man squad: Jacob Gagai, Adam Swift, Jake Bibby, Sam Halsall, Tui Lolohea, Adam Clune, Oliver Wilson, Zac Woolford, Thomas Burgess, Sam Hewitt, Harry Rushton, Ashton Golding, George King, Joe Greenwood, Leroy Cudjoe, Tristan Powell, Taane Milne, Kieran Rush, Connor Carr, George Flanagan, Jack Bibby

Leigh Leopards team news

Josh Charnley was named on the bench last week against Hull FC but the veteran winger is in the 21-man squad again this week so it will be interesting to note where and for how long he plays on Thursday.

Gareth O’Brien remains out under concussion protocols with the half having an extended period on the sidelines after failing a number of HIAs over a certain time period. That presents another opportunity for Ben McNamara.

The major boost is the return of David Armstrong whilst Frankie Halton is also named again and could return to the field for the first time since suffering injury.

Leigh Leopards 21-man squad: David Armstrong, Darnell McIntosh, Tesi Niu, Umyla Hanley, Josh Charnley, Lachlan Lam, Owen Trout, Edwin Ipape, Robbie Mulhern, Frankie Halton, Jack Hughes, Isaac Liu, Alec Tuitavake, Matt Davis, Brad Dwyer, Keanan Brand, Andrew Badrock, Ben McNamara, Bailey Hodgson, Jack Darbyshire, Joe Ofahengaue
