Huddersfield Giants Director of Rugby Andy Kelly has set out the club’s short, medium and long-term goals, as they enter the next phase of their rebuild.
Many thought that Luke Robinson would be the man to take the club forward, however the Giants opted to part ways with the former half-back last month as they look for a solution to their current woes.
The Giants have been in and around the foot of the table for a number of seasons, and chairman Ken Davy and his staff are hoping to change that sooner rather than later.
Davy set an extremely optimistic goal of wanting the club to reach a Grand Final in the next three seasons, something he still believes is achievable.
He also wants to build a new stadium for the club, but are still searching to find a plot of land to be able to build on, following their failed efforts to secure the former gasworks site in the middle of the town.
In line with the rebuild, Kelly has revealed what the side’s goals are now Robinson has departed.
“I think short-term is to get the team in a winning position,” he revealed in a press conference prior to the club’s recent victory over Wigan Warriors.
“We’ve not always been non-competitive in games and we’ve contested large periods of games, but we have to finish the 80 minutes and start to put some two-pointers in place.
“I think that’s the short-term, we have to get the players on the field and start bringing about a change in fortune by getting the results. That then will feed into many aspects of the club and the supporters, because to encourage people to come and watch the Huddersfield Giants, then we have to start having a bit more of a winning mentality and some consistency in that regard.
“The medium-term, obviously, is to move up the league table. We do not want to languish in the position we’re in. Again, to give people a little bit more faith and hope, we have to start to move up the league ladder.
“Long-term, our ambitions sit with every club, we want to win a grand final.”
