Huddersfield Giants’ current stadium will have a new name going forward with a new naming rights partner being found.
The John Smith’s Stadium is no more, and a new sponsorship for the stadium’s name has been acquired.
Huddersfield-based components firm Accu has now acquired the naming rights to the stadium for both the Giants and football club Huddersfield Town.
Accu will be the fourth company to sponsor the stadium, following construction firm Alfred McAlpine, pharmaceutical company Galpharm and brewer John Smiths, and the ground is heading into its 31st year, having opened in 1994.
The new name will come into effect ahead of the 2025-2026 EFL season for Town’s pre-season friendlies starting at the end of July, but the branding for John Smiths has already been removed from the external ground.
In a statement on the Giants website, Alastair Morris, Managing Director of Accu, said: “We’re incredibly proud to align our brand with this iconic stadium, and with Huddersfield Giants and Huddersfield Town, a club that shares our passion for innovation, local pride, and community engagement, the Accu Stadium will be more than a stadium.
“It will be a symbol of shared ambition and a focal point for the growth of Huddersfield.”
This is expected to be Huddersfield’s final season at the Accu Stadium, with a temporary switch to Halifax’s The Shay on the cards from the 2026 season.
Giants chairman Ken Davy is looking for a site to build his side a new purpose-built stadium, with The Shay set to be their home until that project is finished with talks ongoing with the council around a suitable location.
