It’s looking more and more likely that Huddersfield Giants will be in Super League next year despite their lowly standing in Super League.
The Giants sit rooted to the foot of the table with just two wins all season long but with Super League status determined off-field, it seems Huddersfield will be safe.
They’ve now also confirmed further IMG points after the implementation of a new LED system at the Accu Stadium, a ground that they may not even be playing at in 2027.
The club have earned a further 0.125 points thanks to those upgrades but they will also improve their ‘Performance’ score in 2026, despite the fact they’re likely to finish at the foot of Super League.
That’s in large part thanks to the fact that the performance pillar is now worth six points instead of five with the score now taken over the last two seasons, rather than three.
It’s widely been reported that those at Huddersfield are confident of their Super League status for 2027 which would suggest that one of York Knights or Toulouse will go down, should London come up.
York boss Mark Applegarth recently labelled it ‘idiotic’ not to afford promoted teams a second year to find their footing, a verdict that’s makes even more sense given that the Knights and Toulouse received half the central funding of the other 12 Super League clubs.

Huddersfield Giants director confirms IMG improvements across the board
When announcing their new and improved IMG score, Huddersfield’s managing director also explained how the changing system has actually benefited the Giants.
“The grading system has been changed in 2027 which will help some clubs and hinder others. We are in the help category which of course is positive news and small improvements such as the LEDS have a profound influence at the end of the year when the marks are calculated,” Richard Thewlis said.
“Early forecasting shows our mark to increase in every category bar that of community where we hit the maximum mark anyway, showing that the work off the field remains of a very high standard and that must remain the case of course.”
What’s most ironic about Huddersfield’s stadium improvements is that there is a very real chance the Giants will not play at the Accu Stadium in 2027 with a ground share at Dewsbury’s FLAIR Stadium a real possibility as owner Ken Davy continues in his bid to find a plot to build a new groun.
Thewlis also explained what fans can do to help Huddersfield continue to improve their score, stating: “What they can do to help the Giants, in a nutshell, is to keep attending matches and interacting with us via social media – whether that be website hits, facebook likes, instagram and X follows and other interactions of the sort. It all helps.”

******* joke.
So its York or Toulouse down to get London in. Another joke as both those teams got ½ the funding of every other team in SL. The whole IMG system stinks the place out!
Unfair on York if they do get booted from SL. Certainly don’t deserve it, they’ve performed well, put together a good squad and haven’t just made up the numbers.
Meanwhile you have a club at the bottom of SL, heavily funded by one person in a stadium which isn’t theirs and sits empty on match days who’ll survive because of some made up numbers in a spreadsheet.
