Huddersfield Giants chairman Ken Davy has shared that the club is in a very dark place at the moment, following a spate of injuries to the side.
This season, the Giants have barely been able to field the same team week on week, with head coach Luke Robinson having to cope with more rotation than most in his first coaching role.
Davy has sympathy for Robinson, sharing on The Bench podcast, having been dealt a difficult hand this season, but is hopeful that the side’s luck will turn around soon.
He said: “We’re in a very dark place at the moment. As everybody knows, you get injuries in this game, but we’ve had more injuries than I can think of any club having for a long, long time.
“That has made life very difficult. Luke Robinson hasn’t been able to get the same team out from one week to the next.
“We’re just starting to get people back now, but even tonight, we’ve got players that have hardly trained together, so that has been incredibly challenging.”
The Huddersfield Giants chairman also noted that he doesn’t think the club has quite got over their Challenge Cup loss three years ago against Wigan Warriors at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Huddersfield Giants chairman on how long he plans to stay on at the club
He admitted that whilst running the Giants is still enjoyable, it’s getting harder every year, especially in terms of finances.
He added: “It’s very important to me, but it is getting very difficult. I can’t hide the fact that it’s very, very difficult now.
“We’ve had some great years. We got the League Leaders’ Shield, we’ve been at three Challenge Cup Finals, but coming second is no fun.
“The last one was only a couple of years ago, we were three minutes from grasping the win, and broken play, the bounce of a ball, and we lost to Wigan.
“I don’t think we’ve really recovered from that, and that’s been tough.
Davy shared that whilst he has no plans to sell his shares anytime soon, he doesn’t plan on staying for another ten years.
He finished:Â “The reality is, I can’t go on forever. The game itself and Huddersfield, we need more success.
“We need to get more people here. We’ve got some tremendous fans, they’re very loyal, but their loyalty is being tested at the moment.
“The board, myself personally, Robbo, and of course the players, are hurting just as much. We’re all incredibly disappointed about where we are.”
