Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson has offered his support to Danny McGuire after he was sacked by Castleford Tigers earlier this week.
McGuire was sacked after a string of bad results and poor performances across the season. His final match was against Robinson’s Giants, as they lost 30-12 at The Jungle.
Robinson spoke about the challenges of being a young coach, and said how swiftly a coaching job can end.
He said: “”He’s been a phenomenal player and he’s a really good bloke. He’s only in the infancy of his coaching career and we’re very quick, it’s a professional sport and results play a part, but it can happen very fast.”
“I feel for Danny, it’s not nice when somebody you admire and are friends with loses a job so yeah, it’s not nice. “

Robinson also called out clubs to rely on young, English talent in order to give them a real opportunity.
“At some point, you’ve got to give somebody a chance,” he said. “A lot of people were raising eyebrows about Matty Peet at Wigan and what a fantastic coach he’s proven to be. At some point, you’ve got to give someone an opportunity, someone who’s English and young and we don’t’ seem to do that in our sport very often.”
Robinson continued: “I think John Kear said it, you’re three weeks away from getting a new contract and three weeks away from getting the sack. That is how fickle sport is, and I’ve been in it a long time, so I know how it is.”
The Giants boss spoke on his own job security, explaining: “Obviously, you’re never secure but I think the Davy family and Huddersfield Giants as a club have got good foundations and there’s strong admirable people behind the scenes.
“Inevitably, if results don’t go your way then there’s always a chance but I’m at a really good club with a long-term vision.”
Castleford will be under the leadership of director of rugby, Chris Chester, but the club have stated he will not be a long-term replacement.
Chester was head coach of Hull KR, before a six-year stint at Wakefield. He turned to a non-coaching role at Leigh Leopards before joining the Tigers this year.
