Huddersfield Giants boss explains Elliot Wallis exit and reveals much-needed injury boost

Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson on the sidelines

It’s been a long time coming but things are finally starting to look up for Huddersfield Giants on the injury front, Luke Robinson has confirmed. The Giants take on Hull FC at Magic Weekend this Sunday at Magic Weekend and they might just have Adam Clune in their ranks once more.

Clune has made just one appearance for the Giants this season with injury ruling him out for huge chunks of the campaign. After sitting out of the first three rounds of the season, the half-back played for the Giants against Wigan at the Brick Community Stadium in March.

However, he was subsequently ruled out for another two months with a hamstring problem. Clune has trained this week, though, and he could be set to feature against the Black and Whites, alongside Zac Woolford, who made his return from injury last week.

Jack Murchie, George King, Harry Rushton and Tui Lolohea are on the mend, too, Robinson has confirmed and some of those could even feature against Hull KR in a couple of weeks’ time.

“I’ve got some good news, Adam Clune came through training today pretty good,” Robinson said in his press conference on Thursday. “Zac played last week and came through that, he came back a couple of weeks before he should have done really, that’s good news once again.

“We’re starting to get troops back. Cluney is a pivotal player for us so that’s really good news. Barring that we’re still probably a few more weeks away from the likes of Murchie and King, they’re still probably two weeks away.

“We always said that around Magic Weekend players were going to start filtering back into the squad and Tui Lolohea should be around that time as well. Clune is back in this week and hopefully Kingy, Harry Rushton and Tui should all be nearly available for the round after Magic.”

Elliot Wallis’ Huddersfield Giants’ loan exit explained

One man who won’t be involved this week is Elliot Wallis after the winger joined Leeds Rhinos on loan for a month. That deal was confirmed this morning and Robinson has moved to explain the decision.

“Elliot was struggling for a little bit of game time with Swifty on the wing and Sam Halsall was playing there originally,” the head coach added. “Then when Connor Carr came in and did a really good job a couple of games before when Elliot was struggling with a little bit of an injury.

“He was getting very frustrated at playing reserves and he wanted to play first-team so we started looking around at opportunities to get some first team rugby and that’s where we are at the moment. He’s still a Huddersfield Giants player but he’s seeking more first-team opportunity.”
