Wigan Warriors host Hull KR on Friday night in what might just be the biggest game of the Super League season. The competition’s top two will go head to head in what is being billed as “The Battle at the Brick”.
Wigan are one of the most successful clubs in the Super League era, being one of only four teams to ever win the Grand Final. They have won the northern hemisphere’s top prize on seven occasions in the summer era.
Hull KR are the new kids on the block when it comes to recent silverware, picking up their first trophy since 1985 when they won the Challenge Cup earlier this year.
Friday night’s clash could well be a dress rehearsal for the Grand Final, in what would be a repeat of the 2024 Grand Final when Wigan emerged victorious.
But what does recent history say when the best in the league go up against each other?
Wigan Warriors and Hull KR last five meetings:
R7 – Friday 11th April 2025: Hull KR 12-28 Wigan Warriors
The most recent meeting between the two was in the reverse fixture earlier this year. Despite a 12-6 half time scoreline in the Robins’ favour, Wigan pulled off a dominant second half comeback to emerge victorious. Tries from Abbas Miski and Zack Eckersley among others helped the Warriors come from behind to take the two points.
Grand Final – Saturday 12th October 2024: Wigan Warriors 9-2 Hull KR
Bevan French’s first-half try was enough to separate the two sides on the biggest stage in the Grand Final last season. A penalty goal from Mikey Lewis was not enough to overcome Wigan, as the Robins looked to be the first new team to win the league since 2004.
R25 – Friday 6th September 2024: Wigan Warriors 24-20 Hull KR
Wigan again came from behind to beat the Rovers, this time to take top spot in the league with just two rounds to go. Tries from Lewis and Matt Parcell put KR in front at the break but again they failed to see out the win, as two tries in five minutes from Liam Marshall clinched the victory for Matt Peet’s men.
Challenge Cup Semi-Final – 18th May 2024: Hull KR 6-38 Wigan Warriors
Wigan Warriors booked their place in the 2024 Challenge Cup Final with a convincing win over Hull KR in Doncaster last May. After leading 24-0 at the break, tries from Tyler Dupree and Jake Wardle saw out the victory.
R9 – Friday 26th April 2024: Hull KR 26-10 Wigan Warriors
KR’s only win in their last five meetings came in April last year. Racing to an 18-0 scoreline after the opening 40, Ryan Hall and Kelepi Tanginoa also crossed to confirm the win. Had Wigan have won that game, they would have gone to the top of the table, leaving KR in 8th. However, the Robins managed to climb up to fifth that night, drawing level on points with the Warriors in 3rd.
