Thursday 17th April
The first game of the Easter weekend features NRL action between Manly Sea Eagles and St George Illawarra on Thursday morning. Both ties between the two sides were won by the home side in 2024 so could St George cause an upset? They currently sit two places below Manly in tenth with both teams on six points.
Super League’s Rivals Round kicks off with Wakefield Trinity v Castleford Tigers at 8:00pm. Like the NRL game, it’s eighth against tenth but Wakefield do have a four-point cushion over the West Yorkshire rivals. However, Trinity have lost two on the bounce being knocked out of the Challenge Cup by Leigh Leopards before losing to St Helens last weekend.
Friday 18th April
Good Friday features five games starting with two NRL games. First, Canterbury Bulldogs host South Sydney Rabbitohs at 7:05am. The Bulldogs are sitting at the top of the NRL table with five wins from five games and the Rabbitohs have eight points from six games.
Game two sees Dolphins v Melbourne Storm in just the fourth match-up between the two sides. The Storms have won all three ties before so can the Dolphins turn the tide?
Super League has three back-to-back games on Good Friday starting with the Hull derby. It’s the top two sides in Super League going head-to-head. Hull FC will be looking to avenge their Challenge Cup defeat against Hull KR two weeks ago and Hull KR will be looking to bounce back from their first Super League loss last week at the hands of champions Wigan Warriors.
Derby day continues with Wigan hosting St Helens. This encounter is third against fourth in the league and the winner will leapfrog the other and potentially move up to second if results go their way. Both sides go into this derby full of confidence following victories last week. With both sides out of the Cup, their sole focus is now on getting back to Old Trafford.
We round out Good Friday with Leeds Rhinos against Huddersfield Giants. With the Giants rooted at the foot of the table and the injuries piling up, Leeds will be confident of taking a home win in this one. However, Huddersfield’s season needs to kickstart at some point so could Rivals Round be the time?
Saturday 19th April
Another four games follow on Saturday starting with a double dose of NRL action. New Zealand Warriors face Brisbane Broncos before Sydney Roosters take on Penrith Panthers. New Zealand and Brisbane have both been steadily going about the 2025 season so far, with the Broncos up in third. In contrasting fortunes, Sydney and Penrith sit at the other end of the table, with the reigning champions down in 16th place.
There’s another Super League double-header on Saturday with Leigh Leopards hosting Warrington Wolves before Salford Red Devils travel to Catalans Dragons. Leigh sit two places above the Wolves after moving up to fifth following their victory against Castleford on Saturday night. Warrington lost to Hull FC last Saturday so will want to get back on track with a victory in Leigh.
Catalans and Salford face off for the second time in April after the Dragons beat the Red Devils in the quarter-final of the Challenge Cup earlier this month. A win for the home side would take them to the brink of the top six. However, the Red Devils are still struggling both on and off the field but need some results quickly.
Sunday 20th April
There’s an NRL double-header on Sunday as Gold Coast Titans host Canberra Raiders before Newcastle Knights face Cronulla Sharks. The Raiders sit in fourth after a strong start to the season. Both Newcastle and Cronulla come into this match on the back of two victories apiece.
Monday 21st April
The NRL’s bottom side Parramatta Eels face another tough test on Easter Monday as they travel to Wests Tigers. The Tigers have won two games on the bounce whereas the Eels have only won one match all season.
