Some huge rugby league fixtures take place from all over the world this week. In Super League, it is the second instalment to Rivals Round, with rivalries such as the Hull derby and Wigan vs Saints taking place. In the NRL, it is the final round of the regular season and there are still three teams that could finish in the final top eight spot heading into the finals.
Here is how to watch all 24 live rugby league matches over the coming week.
Thursday 4th September:
Kicking the week off is a 4th vs 2nd contest in the NRL as Brisbane Broncos host Melbourne Storm. The Broncos simply need to win to keep their top four spot safe, whilst Melbourne will finish 2nd regardless of the result.
In the evening, Super League has two matches on offer, with Huddersfield Giants taking on Leeds Rhinos. After a 34-0 victory over Hull FC last week, Leeds will be looking to continue their four-match winning run over the injury-torn Giants.
Meanwhile, Salford Red Devils, after an impressive victory over Warrington last week, will be looking for another upset when they play another inconsistent side in Catalans Dragons.
Friday 5th September:
Friday morning sees Sydney Roosters play out a double header, with the NRLW side taking on Canberra before the men’s team face South Sydney in another derby. Sandwiched in between is Manly Sea Eagles hosting NZ Warriors.
Women’s Super League is back on Sky Sports as St Helens host Wigan in a double header with the men’s fixture. A result is vital in both competitions, with the winner of the women’s game huge favourites to finish top of the table. For the men, it will be another memorable game in the two sides’ rich history. Saints are at risk of creating a three-point gap between them and the top four should they lose, meaning a victory on home turf is vital.
At the same time, Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers look to achieve local bragging rights. However, Trinity are huge favourites for that one and could extend their lead over Hull FC this week and all but confirm their playoff place.
Saturday 6th September:
St George Illawarra open Saturday’s action, with the women’s side hosting North Queensland and the men facing Penrith Panthers. Following that, Canterbury Bulldogs and Cronulla Sharks play out a NRL and NRLW double header. Gold Coast Titans host West Tigers as the home side look to avoid the wooden spoon.
Warrington look to bounce back from their woeful performance over the Red Devils as they face Leigh Leopards in their final home game of the season. The Wolves have backed Sam Burgess heading into next year and a brilliant way to start would be to compete well with the high-flying Leopards.
Wheelchair rugby league is also back on our screens this week, with The Sportsman providing coverage of three Wheelchair Super League matches. London Roosters face Halifax Panthers, Hull FC face Wigan Warriors and Sheffield Eagles take on Leeds Rhinos in what is set to be an action-packed afternoon.
Sunday 7th September:
NZ Warriors face Brisbane and Newcastle host Gold Coast in Sunday morning’s NRLW action. The Dolphins are one of three teams looking to sneak into the top eight but face a tough task against league leaders Canberra.
A Gold Coast win on Saturday would move the Knights to bottom spot, meaning they too would have to win if they are to avoid the spoon. They take on Parramatta. The Eels’ Women then battle Wests Tigers, however both sides are unable to make the playoffs.
The Hull Derby sees the week’s action end in style, as the Robins host neighbours Hull FC in what should be a fiery and intense contest. A Wigan defeat to Saints and a Robins win would mean they are presented the League Leaders Shield against their biggest rivals, in what would be a lovely pill to swallow for Willie Peters’ side. There will be a slight delay to kick off in this one, due to a government mobile phone test.
