Rugby League on TV this week as Challenge Cup second round coverage confirmed

Challenge Cup

The second round of the Challenge Cup gets underway this weekend and three of the 18 ties will be televised in some format, including an all-Championship clash.

As well as the second round of the Challenge Cup, there are four pre-season friendlies featuring eight Super League sides, however, none of those games are being broadcast.

Instead, it’s all eyes on the Challenge Cup with one of Saturday’s six games set to be aired as well as two of Sunday’s twelve remaining fixtures. It’s worth noting that the 19th fixture of the round, Lock Lane versus Featherstone Rovers, has been cancelled with the community club handed a bye to the third round after Featherstone Rovers’ administration.

Hull KR will face Lock Lane in the third round with the Challenge Cup holders confirming that they will actually host the game on Friday, 6th February.

Saturday’s broadcast game sees Sheffield Eagles host Whitehaven in an all-Championship affair that will be aired on BBC iPlayer. The winner of that match progresses to meet the 2024 and 2025 Challenge Cup runners-up Warrington Wolves.

Sunday’s two aired games kick off at 1:30pm with Widnes Vikings streaming their away clash with Thatto Heath Crusaders on YouTube, with the winner set to meet Leeds Rhinos.

Also at 1:30pm, Waterhead Warriors will host Rochdale Hornets for a chance to face Wigan Warriors. That game will be shown on the Sportsman Rugby League YouTube channel.
