Rugby League News: Gale and Reynolds in firing line, Hardaker future & Leeds to sign Castleford man?

It has been a busy 24 hours with major stories breaking from Super League and the NRL.

Here is a round-up of everything that has happened…

Wane’s claim

The Yorkshire Evening Post has revealed that one candidate is better qualified than most to take over at Leeds Rhinos.

The paper believes that Shaun Wane is the best candidate to take over at Headingley.

Hull and Warrington

There have been a number of surprise withdrawals from the Hull FC side to face Warrington Wolves this evening as head coach Brett Hodgson prepares to ring the changes.

There is also an update on Warrington halfback George Williams after he missed last week’s win over Salford Red Devils. Read more here.

Gale and Reynolds criticised and bite claim

Paul Sculthorpe and Kevin Brown have taken aim at Hull FC halfbacks Josh Reynolds and Luke Gale following their recent performances. The duo were present for FC’s loss against Hull KR in their derby clash. Read more here.

Fages’ warning to Saints

Huddersfield Giants halfback Theo Fages has issued a warning to St Helens after a great start to the season, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Fages said: “We know Saints are a good team and against a good team, if you go wrong, things can go bad for you. We have to be at our best to have a chance to win on Monday.”

Two-month bans?

Hull FC and Wigan Warriors could be facing a problem with two of their stars after a potential two-month ban awaits.

‘Freak’ SL injury

League Express has revealed that Toulouse Olympique star Dominique Peyroux suffered a ‘freak’ injury of a broken jaw during training.

 

Leeds contracts

With a new head coach at Leeds Rhinos expected this week, there are a number of pressing concerns for the new man.

That is a number of stars will be out of contract at the end of 2022 with the likes of Blake Austin and Rhyse Martin in the last year of their deals. Read more here.

Leeds Rhinos are reportedly in the driving seat to sign a Castleford Tigers man.

Castleford Tigers head coach Lee Radford has made a number of changes to the side that beat Wakefield Trinity. One of those will be a big miss.

Injury blows

A number of Super League sides have posted a series of worrying injury blows after a bruising Easter weekend.

Wigan and Wakefield

Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has named his squad for today’s clash with Wakefield Trinity, with news on Zak Hardaker.

Wakefield Trinity boss Willie Poching has also given an update on star winger Tom Johnstone. Read more here.

Hardaker future

Following Wigan Warriors’ squad announcement last week, head coach Matty Peet told Sky Sports pundit Jenna Brooks about why Zak Hardaker was dropped.

The fullback/centre was dropped for ‘dipping’ below standards, but Peet also gave an update to Brooks about Hardaker’s future at the club. Read more here.

Ex-Wakefield and Wigan man in hospital

There was some awful breaking news over the weekend that former Wakefield and Wigan man Bill Ashurst was hospitalised.

Edwards’ future

Castleford Tigers forward Kenny Edwards is on-loan from Huddersfield Giants, but he has been enjoying his rugby greatly at the Jungle.
