The future of former Hull FC and Castleford Tigers full-back Tex Hoy has been confirmed after recent links to an NRL club.
Hoy, who signed for Hull FC ahead of the 2023 season following a move from Newcastle Knights, sent a parting message to Super League back in December when he confirmed he was leaving the UK to make a return to Australia.
At the time it wasn’t clear what his playing future looked like but the full-back was recently seen in training with NRL outfit Manly Sea Eagles.
That sparked speculation that the former Hull FC and Cas man had landed himself a train-and-trial deal at the club, working behind captain Tom Trbojevic in the position.
Manly have now confirmed that to be the case, commenting on Hoy’s status and confirming his role for the 2026 season.
Former Hull FC man lands huge NRL lifeline
Sharing a statement to their club website, the Sea Eagles confirmed that Hoy had indeed signed a train-and-trial deal for 2026.
It’s a massive boost for Hoy whose career in England was full of ups and downs, unable to fully take off at Hull FC and then featuring as part of a struggling Castleford side.
Arguably his best game came for Castleford against Hull FC when he managed to get a try against his former club, however, a lack of consistency harmed him.
Manly head coach Anthony Seibold welcomed Hoy to the club, stating: “Tex has shown that he’s a quality player and we’re happy to have him with us.
“He’s on a train and trial deal which gives him the opportunity to work hard and take advantage of any opportunity that might come his way.”
It would be quite the turnaround if Hoy can land himself a permanent deal at the club given how he exited Super League, though with Tom Trbojevic’s injury history and Hoy’s ability to flash brilliance, he could well do so.
