Four potential destinations for Lewis Dodd after NRL shutout

After just three NRL appearances, Lewis Dodd could be on his way out of South Sydney Rabbitohs with the 23-year-old failing to meet expectations of head coach Wayne Bennett. 

The former Saints man joined South Sydney Rabbitohs on a three-year deal, but it is likely that his time at the club will be up, and a potential move home could be on the cards. 

Souths have signed another young half for the 2026 and 2027 seasons in Jonah Glover and Lewis Dodd has constantly been denied chances to start in the NRL, instead featuring in the New South Wales Cup.

If Souths do want to get him off their wage bill then they may need to pay some of his reported $650,000 salary, something which Super League clubs will not be able to stump up.

Despite wage issues, Super League seems his most likely destination in terms of levels and given that multiple clubs are in need of a halfback upgrade going into 2026. Here are four potential clubs that the playmaker could sign for going into the new season.

Where could Lewis Dodd be playing in 2026 if he leaves Souths

Warrington Wolves 

Should Dodd return to the UK, one club that could be monitoring him is Warrington. 

After shuffling the likes of Stefan Ratchford and Oli Leyland in the halves at the start of the year, Wire pounced on Salford’s demise and brought in the experienced Marc Sneyd. He has given them some direction and leadership in the halves, but Sneyd can’t be seen as their long-term plan given his age. 

Yougster Leon Hayes was set to be the Wolves’ number seven this year, but an ACL injury ruled him out for the entire season. 

George Williams looks set to be leaving the club at the end of his contract in 2026 so Warrington could look to bring Dodd in to learn from the talented Williams and Sneyd before pairing him with young Hayes as their starting halves in 2027. 

Wakefield Trinity 

Despite some impressive results and good form since their return to Super League, Wakefield have had their fair share of injuries. 

The issues have been in the halves, with Oliver Russell suffering a thumb injury and Jake Trueman constantly picking up knocks. 

A fully fit Dodd would no doubt improve Wakefield’s options in the halves and could be the cog that they need to add if they want to continue to challenge for the top six. 

Leigh Leopards 

With Gareth O’Brien and Ben McNamara both out of contract, the Leopards will be looking for another half to compliment Lachlan Lam. 

This move has its drawbacks given that both players prefer the number seven role so one of them would have to switch to stand off, but a team with the x-factor of Lam and the game management of Dodd would be a threat to anyone. 

Canberra Raiders 

The most unlikely move in this list is that Dodd actually stays in the NRL. 

Canberra love signing an Englishman, and with Jamal Fogarty leaving the club to join Manly in 2026, a starting halfback role has emerged at one of the game’s top clubs. 

Ethan Sanders, a youngster playing NSW Cup for the Raiders’ reserve teams, could get his chance at NRL next year, but they will still need a plan B should things start to go wrong. 

Dodd knows the likes of Morgan Smithies and Matty Nicholson in the Raiders current squad, so could we see the former Saints man stay in Australia for a little bit longer?
