Rugby League News: Four Australian targets for Leeds, Castleford blow, Beaumont slams ex-players & Warrington eye rival forward?

It has been a busy 24 hours with major stories breaking from Super League and the NRL.

Here is a round-up of everything that has happened…

Warrington eye rival forward?

When Warrington Wolves were playing their Challenge Cup fixture against Wakefield Trinity on Sunday, commentator Mark Wilson spoke about a certain player.

In that remark he mentioned that Warrington were interested in bringing him to the Halliwell Jones Stadium. Read more here.

English and Aussie coaches apply

The Yorkshire Evening Post has revealed that English and Australian coaches have applied for the vacant Leeds Rhinos job. Leeds chief Gary Hetherington said: “I am making a short visit to Australia, but there’s also interest from quality coaches in England.” Meanwhile, Garry Schofield wants Ellery Hanley to take over the job as he revealed in his League Express column.

Gale challenged

The Hull Daily Mail has revealed that Hull FC legend Paul Cooke has challenged Luke Gale upon his return to the starting line up this weekend.

Gale has missed the last five games after being banned, and Cooke said: “He’s got to get on the field, stay on the field and start really contributing. The team has done really well while he’s been out of it.”

New look Super League

There will be a new look Super League board later this year as interim chairman Kev Davy explained to the media yesterday, according to Yorkshire Live.

Davy has also addressed his own future after leading Super League for the past year, stating that there will be a big shake up. Read more here.

Solomona’s new club

Former Castleford Tigers winger Denny Solomona has signed for a second club in just three weeks, Stuff has revealed.

Solomona also reflected on his time in the UK, Super League and rugby union. Read more about his new club and comments here.

Refereeing appointments

The RFL has released its match appointments for the fixtures this weekend with Robert Hicks getting the big gig.

However, one official who was the man in the middle last weekend has been replaced. Read more here.

Leeds, Warrington and Wigan respond

Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors have all responded to the charges and bans handed out to some of their stars on Monday.

All three clubs have made a decision on whether or not to appeal. Read more here.

Charnley’s message

Warrington Wolves winger Josh Charnley has sent out an ominous message to the rest of Super League following the disappointment of their Challenge Cup exit at the weekend.

The Wolves were beaten 16-12 by Wakefield Trinity just a week after being beaten by the same team 38-22. Read more on his message here.

Walker’s coaching gig

Leeds Rhinos youth coach Chev Walker has been given a big coaching role for the 2022 season.

Walker, who used to play for Leeds, Bradford Bulls and Hull KR, has been involved with the Rhinos for numerous years. Read more about the new role here.

Beaumont slams ex-players

Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont always has a word or two to say about things and his recent comments to the Rugby League Review podcast on his time in Super League were no different.

Beaumont didn’t name any names but spoke about their attitudes. Read more here.

Woolf on Leeds and Bentley

St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf has told Saints TV about the challenge that they will face from a wounded Leeds Rhinos.

Woolf also spoke about coming up against former forward James Bentley who moved to Leeds in the off-season. Read more here.

Connor sensation

Hull FC fullback Jake Connor has become a sensation in Super League in 2022 – yet he still wasn’t picked for the England squad by Shaun Wane.

Now, though, there is some incredible news concerning the fullback which was revealed by the Hull FC Twitter account yesterday. Read more here.

Warrington deal

Warrington Wolves yesterday revealed they had signed an exciting, major deal.

The club has been struggling recently on the field with just one win in seven games, but off-field it’s a different story. Read more on the deal here.

Powell comments on Leeds job

Warrington Wolves head coach Daryl Powell has commented on the Leeds Rhinos job when he was at the helm as well as his exit to the Through The Wire podcast.

Leeds are currently looking for another head coach with Gary Hetherington set for a major dilemma. Read more here.

French latest and Wigan dilemma

There has been huge news revealed about Wigan Warriors fullback Bevan French following ten months out with injury. Read more on the news here.

Pearce-Paul blow

There is, however, awful news emerging about Wigan Warriors star Kai Pearce-Paul who had to leave the field in his side’s win over Salford Red Devils.

Castleford blow

On the topic of blows, Castleford Tigers have also been on the receiving end of a major one following their win over Leeds Rhinos at the weekend.
