Ben Condon has officially left Championship club Widnes Vikings to take up an opportunity in Super League for the 2026 season.
Condon joined the Vikings halfway through the 2025 campaign and scored five tries in 10 appearances for the club in the second tier. However, he has taken up a deal with a Super League club for next season.
The forward did sign with Leigh Leopards ahead of this season but the deal fell through for medical reasons. The Leopards have since been linked with another move for the forward, but according to All Out Rugby League, Catalans Dragons are interested in signing the Australian, too.
If he is to join Catalans, he would be the latest overseas player to make the switch to Perpignan, with the club undergoing a rather large rebuild as they prepare to start a new era under Joel Tomkins.
Ben Condon leaves Championship club Widnes Vikings
Speaking after his exit, Condon said on his time at the Vikings: “I’d like to thank everyone involved with the club for making my time at Widnes so enjoyable.
“The fans were fantastic home and away, the support they gave us was a massive part of why I enjoyed my time with the club so much.
“The coaching staff and players were superb with me, obviously coming over mid-season, and I’m confident all the new players coming in are in good hands with them.”
Head coach Allan Coleman added on the back-rower: “All I can say about Ben Condon is what a player, and what a presence.
“I’m incredibly thankful to him for being a part of us and our history; he’s been an absolute credit.
“He’s going to where he deserves to be, and that’s playing in Super League. I can’t wait to see how he develops, and we wish him all the best.”
Widnes have also confirmed that Finlay Irwin has left the club. Irwin joined the Vikings in July on a short-term deal after spells with Wigan Warriors and Brisbane Tigers.
However, after making just one appearance for the club, he has been allowed to leave without the offer of a new deal.
“I want to wish Finlay all the best and thank him for his efforts last season,” Coleman added. “He’s a talented player and will be a great addition for whatever club signs him.”
