Ex-Huddersfield Giants hooker Danny Levi has announced he will leave Canberra Raiders after three years at the club.
The hooker, who turns 30 in December, started his career at Newcastle Knights, and made 83 appearances over five seasons. Single-season moves to Manly Sea Eagles and Brisbane Broncos came next, before moving to Super League for the 2022 season.
There, he played almost every game, missing just two in a year that included the Giants’ first Challenge Cup final appearance since 2009, but lost out due to a late Liam Marshall try at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Levi returned Down Under at the end of the year, citing family and homesickness as his reasons for going home.
Signing for Canberra ahead of 2023, he has made 29 appearances since then, after mainly being used in the reserve grade competition. Levi has only managed two NRL appearances this campaign, but has played 21 times for the Raiders’ NSW Cup team.
On the international stage, he has represented two countries. First, he made his representative debut for New Zealand, and played four matches as a rotation hooker in the 2017 World Cup. He then switched allegiances for the 2022 World Cup and represented Samoa as they reached the final. Levi would only make it through to the quarter finals however, with family reasons again forcing him to return home and miss the remainder of the tournament.
Serious About Rugby League has launched a brand new podcast which can be watched in full on our YouTube channel here.
Now, after confirming his exit via Instagram, he will leave the club and will look for other opportunities to continue his playing career.
Ex-Super League man confirms NRL club exit
Unsure on what’s next, Levi wrote: “Thank you Canberra for making the last 3 years home for me and my little family ❤️ Great town, Great people and the best bunch of boys! ✊🏽
“Not sure where the journey leads next but will always be forever grateful!
“Raider #388 signing out! ✌🏽who’s hiring? 😅”
As Serious About RL reported earlier this year, Levi is understood to have received some Super League interest in recent months without a deal being reached.
