Former St Helens winger Tee Ritson is on the verge of making history at current club Barrow Raiders, but injury has put a temporary stop to those plans.
Ritson, 30, has played for Barrow since 2019 and has done so across two spells after making a two-year switch to Saints in 2023 and 2024.
A former Workington and Newcastle player, he has consistently been one of the second tier’s most lethal finishers, which is why the Red Vee took a chance on him in the first place.
Scoring 98 tries in 107 games for the Raiders, he is close to becoming the fastest player in the club’s history to rack up a century of tries, but an Achilles injury has halted his progress.
Suffering the blow in the recent win over Workington, in which he scored a hat-trick, Ritson will miss the rest of the 2026 campaign, with scans due later this week to determine the full extent of the injury.
The try-scoring machine needs two tries in his next three games to beat the current record held by the legendary Bill Burgess. That record has stood for over 60 years, with Burgess dotting down 100 times in 111 appearances.
Since his return from St Helens at the start of 2025, Ritson has touched down for 29 tries in 34 games, highlighting just how influential he is to the Raiders outfit.
Commenting on the blow, Barrow’s Director of Rugby, Andy Gaffney, said: “Losing a player of Tee’s quality is a bitter pill to swallow.
“He has been in fine form this season, but in professional sport these things can happen and you have to roll with the punches.
“Tee is a model athlete, and I’m confident that he will do everything in his power to make a return to the field as soon as possible.”
