Former St Helens coach Daniel Anderson has secured a new role, moving between NRL clubs in a new front office capacity.
Anderson has been the head of recruitment at Sydney Roosters for the last six years, but will now link up with St George-Illawarra Dragons in a similar role as Head of Recruitment and Pathways.
Despite joining the Roosters in 2019, he took a leave of absence following a freak bodysurfing accident in December 2022, where a spinal cord injury left him a quadriplegic.
However, he returned to his role at the Roosters, after a fundraising initiative raised money for essential equipment, home modifications and specialist physiotherapy for him.
Former St Helens coach joins NRL’s Dragons in new recruitment role
In Super League, his reputation is remarkable, winning the treble with St Helens in 2006 in his second season at the club, losing just four games all season.
Now, he joins the Dragons, and with his extensive knowledge of Super League and NRL players, he will now take on the challenge of identifying young talent and prepping them for a career in the NRL.
Dragons CEO Tim Watsford said: “We are excited to welcome Daniel to the Dragons. We undertook an extensive search that crossed the game, broader sporting industry and varying stakeholders.
“Daniel was a standout with regard to credentials, cultural fit and an eye to support the coaching team and wider football department in delivering success through talent identification.
“Recruitment and Pathways for the Dragons is a broad, wide-reaching and integral role. With two new teams entering the competition and the premiership never being closer, it’s important to secure key football appointments now that generate momentum as we build a robust future.
“Daniel possesses the knowledge, skill set and temperament to implement long-lasting systems to develop, identify and recruit talent to succeed at the top level.”
