The former CEO of the Rugby Football League has helped launch a bold new era at one Super League club following a brutal and honest review.
Ralph Rimmer returned to Huddersfield Giants in 2025 in an advisory role before being confirmed as the club’s Director for Change and the centrepiece project within Rimmer’s remit has now been announced.
‘Giants Unleashed’ has been confirmed as a “new era for the Huddersfield Giants” with the club undertaking an honest review that they hope will put them onto a fresh slate to progress.
Owner Ken Davy has not been quiet in his own statements, claiming that Huddersfield Giants will win a Grand Final, adding that it is not a case of ‘if, but when’.
Such statements from the owner of a club who haven’t won silverware since 2013, when they claimed the League Leaders Shield, are very bold but that is what this new ‘Giants Unleashed’ project is about.
Huddersfield Giants announce new project on eve of Super League season
Announced via the club’s website, they confirmed that the project started back in July 2025 and has gathered pace since after a wide-scale analysis of the Super League club.
The Giants said: “Phase 1 was not a particularly sympathetic piece of work but was objective and necessary; we adopted the mantra “You can’t heal what you won’t face”. It was a brave step for the club to take and concluded by the laying out of a series of future directional choices.
“The Board and all within the club then whole-heartedly embraced this journey and from that, an unshakable commitment to rebuild has developed! Everyone understands the size of the task and what needs to be done and it is that undeniable passion for success that is inspirational and unstoppable.”
Explaining what ‘Giants Unleashed’ is, Huddersfield explained: “We are rapidly transforming internally in three ways: Strategically (Vision, Mission and Business Plans), Culturally (Values and identity) and through increased Connectivity (Engaging more effectively internally and externally with old and new).”
Admitting that the changes won’t happen overnight and that the club will cop criticism along the way, Huddersfield then listed six short mantras that simplify what their new era is all about.
Those were: “A dynamic club-wide reset
“A new energy
“A fresh and shared belief
“A real focus
“A complete togetherness
“A momentum.”
How that materialises over the next few months and years is to be seen but there’s no denying the ambition that Huddersfield have and with an owner who is fully committed, they could well follow in the footsteps of success stories such as Hull KR, Leigh Leopards and Wakefield Trinity.
