Former Leeds Rhinos winger handed lengthy suspension as Castleford Tigers man charged for contact with match official

Former Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers winger Derrell Olpherts has been handed a lengthy suspension after an incident in the Championship.

Olpherts, who currently features for Batley Bulldogs in the second tier, is one of five players charged in today’s disciplinary outcome and has been handed by far the biggest sanction of the lot.

Issued a Grade F for Unacceptable Language, the winger will miss the next six games after picking up 36 penalty points. He will also need to pay a fine.

The incident occured in Batley’s 50-4 win over Goole Vikings, in a game that saw former Leigh Leopards man Ben Reynolds cross for a hat-trick.

Also charged this week is former Huddersfield Giants man Jacob Fairbank, now featuring for Halifax Panthers, who has been hit with a Grade B charge for ‘late contact on passer’. He has not been banned.

Castleford Tigers’ reserves player, Taylor Sharpe has been given three penalty points for a Grade B ‘reckless contact with match official’, and will need to pay a fine.

Hunslet RLFC player Dan Abram and Warrington Wolves Women’s academy player Imogen Roberts have also been charged by the Match Review Panel.
