A former emerging star of the sport has made his return to Super League after spending the 2025 season in the Championship.
Jack Walker is still only 26 but rugby league fans will remember him featuring in a Super League Grand Final as a teenager, however, his full potential was never quite unlocked.
Injuries have plagued Walker at times during his career, resulting in him spending the 2025 season in the Championship with Sheffield Eagles following his release from Hull FC late last year.
However, he’s set to return to Super League with the Eagles releasing a statement to confirm that the full-back has left the club for an opportunity in the top tier.
A clause in Walker’s contract allowed for him to leave with immediate effect, cutting short his time with Sheffield where he made 18 appearances and scored three times in the Eagles’ difficult 2025 season.
Jack Walker signs with Super League club
Sheffield’s statement confirmed Walker’s exit and his immediate return to Super League but they did not confirm a team, though journalist John Davidson has reported it to be Salford Red Devils.
Salford have been scrambling for players of late with the Red Devils cancelling last weekend’s game on account of player welfare but they are expected to play against Leigh Leopards tonight and have named a squad.
Their most recent loanee is Bradford Bulls’ Emmanuel Waine and should they sign Walker then he’d be yet another Championship recruit.
Walker signed with Sheffield at the start of the year with head coach Craig Lingard revealing it to be a “monthly rolling contract”, explaining: “It gives him the opportunity if a Super League comes in, as he’s not tied to the club.”
That has happened with Sheffield’s statement announcing: “Jack Walker has informed us of his decision to leave the club after triggering a clause in his contract to enable him to join a Betfred Super League team with immediate effect.”

First rate full back! If he can stay injury free, he’ll be one to watch!
