Following his departure from Hull KR at the end of the 2024 season, Matt Parcell’s playing days looked to be over. However, he will go round again in 2026, with his new club now being named.
The hooker, who spent eight seasons in Super League, won the Grand Final in his first year in the division, helping Leeds Rhinos to victory over Castleford Tigers.
He would remain at Headingley until part-way through 2019, where he joined Hull KR as part of a swap deal with Shaun Lunt who went the other way.
The 33-year-old signed permanently for the Robins in 2020, and became a key player under Tony Smith and Willie Peters.
Departing the UK competition with 177 Super League games, he returned home to Australia at the end of 2024, and didn’t feature for any club this past season.
However, after 12 months out, he will now return to the field and will link up with a reserve grade side in the NRL.
Western Clydesdales, who compete in the Queensland Cup, will be where Parcell runs out next year.
Coached by former Leeds man Ben Walker, and brother Shane, the hooker will continue his playing career and will hope he can improve the current squad, after they finished bottom of the division in 2025.
