Former Hull FC youngster signs with Championship new boys following release

Hull FC academy graduate Zach Jebson has been without a club for less than a a month, following his release at the end of the season, but has already secured a new deal for 2026 and beyond.

The back rower failed to feature under John Cartwright in 2025, but made 10 appearances for the club, with his debut coming in September 2023.

Jebson has spent time on loan at both Goole Vikings and Workington Town this campaign, as well as featuring for FC’s reserve squad. His time at the MKM Stadium may have come to an end, but his playing career is far from over, having secured a new two-year deal with a League One club.

Midlands Hurricanes will be where the 21-year-old calls his new home, as he links up with the Birmingham-based outfit until the end of 2027. The Hurricanes are preparing for life in what will be a revamped second division, with the Championship and League One sides merging to form one big competition for 2026.

Led by former Bradford Bulls boss Mark Dunning, the Canes have already announced some exciting signings such as former Super League players Oliver Roberts and Danny Craven.

Speaking on his move, Jebson can’t wait to get started with his new side as they prepare for a new challenge next year.

He said: “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to sign with this club and I’m excited about the challenge ahead. Moving into the Championship is a big step, and with the quality already in the squad – as well as the new signings that have been announced – I believe we’re in a strong position to not only compete but to really challenge the other teams in the division.

“From what I have seen the club is heading in a very positive direction, and to commit here for the next two years is something I’m proud of. Having been with Hull FC since the age of 15, this move represents an exciting new chapter for me. I’m looking forward to working hard to earn the respect of my teammates and coaches, and to showing the loyal Canes supporters how proud I am to represent this club.

“I can’t wait to meet the squad, get stuck into pre-season next month and put myself in the best possible position to contribute when the new season begins.”
