Former Hull FC academy player signs Super League deal for 2027 after standout year

Former Hull FC academy hooker Jeylan Hodgson is understood to be the latest Championship player to sign a deal in Super League for 2027.

Serious About Rugby League understands that Hodgson, currently at Goole Vikings, will join Huddersfield Giants on what is thought to be a two-year deal with the hooker becoming Jim Lenihan’s second signing in as many weeks.

The Giants announced the signature of NRL prop and Ireland international Jaimin Jolliffe last week with the enforcer inking a three-year deal and Hodgson now appears to be the club’s next recruit.

Hodgson, who came through the Hull FC academy and has plenty of pedigree given that he is the nephew of former England international Josh Hodgson, has been on the radar for a number of Super League clubs this year, even training with Hull KR in the pre-season.

Leigh Leopards considered the hooker at one point in a deal that would have seen the number nine link up with his brother Bailey, who is set to move to Hull FC for 2027, though a deal never came about.

Instead, Hodgson has continued to grind away at Goole and it’s not gone unnoticed with the Giants rewarding him with a deal for 2027 where he will play behind Zac Woolford.

It’s unclear who else will be in the hooker room for Huddersfield in 2027 as utility Kieran Rush is off-contract at the end of the year, whilst Cole Geyer is only on loan from Oldham until the end of the season.

Geyer has impressed during his time at the Accu Stadium but with parent club Oldham undergoing ownership changes and the Championship set to introduce a salary cap from 2027 onwards, the Australian’s future is unclear.

Huddersfield have a host of other players off-contract including four key overseas players in Adam Clune, Jacob Gagai, Taane Milne and Tui Lolohea, so there are plenty of decisions to be made at the club in the coming weeks.
