There’s a host of big name Super League wingers off contract next year and with rival clubs already able to negotiate with them, their clubs may need to act fast.
Players without a deal for 2027 can already begin negotiating with rival clubs after the removal of the May 1st deadline in recent years.
Previously, rival clubs had to wait until midway through the season before they could open negotiations with off-contract players but that change has had a key impact.
A number of clubs have countered it by offering longer contracts with Wigan Warriors and Hull KR very proactive in that sense, however, the Robins have a starting winger off-contract at the end of the 2026 season.
We’ve picked out five of the best wingers in Super League free to negotiate with rival clubs for 2027. Outside of the top five are young stars such as Jason Qareqare and Lewis Murphy, who could both be impressive recruits should they get on top of their injury issues.
Who are the best Super League wingers off-contract in 2026?
Joe Burgess (Hull KR)
Burgess signed for the Robins ahead of the 2024 Super League season, quickly extending that deal until the end of the 2026 season. He’s impressed in his time with Hull KR, scoring 42 tries in 48 games and earning an England recall for the Ashes meaning he’ll be in high demand if Rovers don’t extend his deal.
Josh Charnley (Leigh Leopards)
Much of the 2025 season was spent speculating whether Josh Charnley would get a new deal and plenty of 2026 might focus on the same given his try-scoring prowess. He’s still chasing down the all-time Super League try-scoring record, sitting just eight behind leader Ryan Hall.
Ryan Hall (Leeds Rhinos)
Leader Ryan Hall is another without a deal beyond the end of the season and he recently spoke to confirm that 2026 won’t necessarily be the end of his playing career. It’s still to be seen how much Hall will play in 2026 given the fact NRL recruit Maika Sivo is now fit again but Hall will hope to add to his 264 Super League tries, and possibly attract a new deal for 2027.
Tommy Makinson (Catalans Dragons)
Another man on this list who sits inside the top five for Super League tries with Tommy Makinson hitting the 200 mark last year. The Catalans winger has one year left on his deal and at 33, he’ll be hoping to secure another one for 2027.
Adam Swift (Huddersfield Giants)
Former Hull FC and St Helens man Adam Swift had another torrid year with injuries in 2025 but be still finished the year with 10 tries in 17, taking his tally to 27 in 30 at Huddersfield. If the 32-year-old can prove his fitness in 2026 then he’ll surely have no issue landing a new deal, either with the Giants or elsewhere.
