Shaun Wane has named his extended England training squad and rugby league fans have disagreed with some of the selections with certain omissions leading to questioning.
An extended 32-man squad was named on Monday with the players set to meet for an off-feet session as part of the preparation for the rugby league Ashes, and also just to help unite the squad once again.
No warm-up matches will be held before the Ashes, which kick off at Wembley on October 25th in just under four months time.
This squad is by no means a definitive squad for the Ashes with plenty of rugby to be played between now and selection, whilst it also only includes players from Super League.
NRL stars such as Herbie Farnworth and Kai Pearce-Paul would likely be in the confirmed Ashes squad but fans have still debated those named to this 32-man squad, and more so those who have not been named. We previously looked at players unlucky to miss out but fans have had their say.
What rugby league fans said about Shaun Wane’s England squad
Following the announcement of the England squad, Serious About Rugby League asked rugby league fans: “Are you happy with the extended 32-man squad that Shaun Wane has named?”, prompting over 100 replies and we’ve picked out a range of some of the best.
David Gary: “Jake Connor should be in the side.”
Alison Elsayed: “No Jake Connor who absolutely deserves to be in that squad!”
Sharon Holmes: “Rovers have the best defence and attack in the league, stats don’t like but only four players compared to the other teams?”
Darren Grannon: “Thought Dean Hadley would have been involved. Been brilliant the last few seasons and maybe Jack Broadbent, a form player and a good utility option.”
Neil Crook: “Must admit, I expected Max Jowitt to be in and even potentially Oli Pratt from Trinity.”
Daryyl Knee: “Max Jowitt is the best full-back in the league, it’s not even close. It’s all about who you play for and I won’t be persuaded otherwise.”
Richard Slater: “I don’t see Marc Sneyd mentioned. The one player to open up the Aussies would be Sneyd. He should be first on the team sheet.”
Maralyn Parkinson Rawlinson: “There’s a lot of people who should apply for his position as it seems they all know better.”

Shaun Wane was appointed coach and has the right to select the team that he thinks will get the job done. What fans think does not matter one jot!
