It is officially Super League’s 30th birthday, and to celebrate, fans have been asked to vote on which match they think is the greatest in the competition’s history.
Be it for their terrific tries or heroic comebacks, every fan will have their own personal preference of what they believe is the best over the past 30 seasons, and 10 emphatic fixtures have been chosen from across the competition’s three-decade history.
The competition have selected 10 matches from across the years that can be classed as the ‘best ever’, and fans are encouraged to decide which of those takes their pick.
The matches range from those in 2000 to 2021, and there are some classic contests that feature. Here is the full list of games to choose from, with St Helens featuring in five of the options.

Rugby league fans select Super League’s best ever game
St Helens 16-11 Bradford Bulls – Play-offs 2000
The iconic “Wide to West” try that saw Chris Joynt score for the Saints in the dying moments to seal a place in the play-off semi-finals.
Bradford Bulls 18-19 St Helens – Grand Final 2002
Sean Long’s drop goal saw the Red Vee take the victory, in one of the tightest and most intense Grand Finals of all time.
Bradford Bulls v Wigan Warriors – Play-offs 2007
After Bradford took a 30-6 lead with 25 minutes to go, he Bulls were expected to cruise into the semi-finals, but Ian Millward’s Warriors had other ideas.
A hat-trick for Mark Calderwood and a try for Harrison Hansen saw Wigan draw level, before Pat Richards slotted over a drop goal with four minutes to go booked their place in the last four.
Warrington Wolves 24-26 Leeds Rhinos – Play offs 2011
Sky Sports commentator Eddie Hemmings labelled Leeds legend Kevin Sinfield “the hero of Headingley” after he slotted over the match winning conversion in the final moments of the game.
Huddersfield Giants 16-20 – Super 8’s 2015
The Ryan Hall try that won Leeds Rhinos the League Leaders Shield and kept the club’s treble hopes alive. A helicopter was en route to Wigan Warriors to deliver the trophy, before the winger’s late score forced a change in proceedings.
Hull KR 20-22 Hull FC – Round 7 2016
The Robins found themselves 20-0 after 58 minutes, but would end up on the losing side, as FC produced an almighty comeback to take the victory in what was one of the best derby matches in the sport’s history.
Hull KR 18-19 Salford Red Devils – Million Pound Game 2016
Gareth O’Brien’s drop goal sealed Salford’s security in Super League as Hull KR dropped down to the Championship in the most heart-breaking fashion.
Castleford Tigers 23-22 St Helens – Play-offs 2017
Luke Gale’s golden point drop goal secured Castleford’s place in their first ever Grand Final. The Saints were 22-20 up with 30 seconds to go, but a penalty from Ryan Morgan allowed the Tigers to level the game.
Wigan Warriors 4-8 St Helens – Grand Final 2020
In front of an empty MKM Stadium, Jack Welsby’s last minute try stole victory away from the Warriors as Saints went on to secure their second of what would turn to out to be four league titles in a row.
St Helens 30-31 Catalans Dragons – Magic Weekend 2021
Saints were 30-12 to the good with just five minutes to go, but three late tries from Dean Whare, Gil Dudson and Sam Kasiano levelled the game to take it to golden point. After eight minutes of extra time James Maloney slotted over a drop goal to complete an almighty comeback.
