Ex-State of Origin and Super League star set to continue career aged 40 as new club revealed

James Maloney Super League

Former Catalans Dragons half-back and Super League Grand Finalist James Maloney will continue his playing career at the age of 40.

Maloney spent two seasons with Catalans in 2020 and 2021, and in his second year at the club helped them to their first-ever Grand Final.

They would come up short that day, losing 12-10 to St Helens, but Maloney will still go down as one of the Dragons’ biggest overseas signings.

Now, after playing for boyhood club Ourimbah Wyoming Magpies in the Central Coast competition last year, he has moved to Picton Magpies and will make his debut this weekend.

Announcing the signing via social media, Picton will take on Campbelltown City Kangaroos on Sunday, a game in which Maloney is set to debut.

The 40-year-old is a two-time NRL Grand Final winner, a former New South Wales Origin player and a three-time Australian international.
