After it was announced this week who Castleford Tigers’ next coach will be and Daryl Powell agreeing new terms with Wakefield Trinity, we have taken a look at every Super League coach’s contract situation, and what their current deals look like.
Ryan Carr will take over at Castleford, whilst Powell is the third coach in Super League to have signed new terms in recent weeks. Leeds Rhinos and Catalans Dragons have also received boosts in the past month with Brad Arthur and Joel Tomkins respectively put pen to paper to commit to their clubs.
It is often the players that the speculation revolves around when it comes to contracts, however a strong coach goes a long way to building a successful team and is an important piece of recruitment and retention.

Castleford Tigers – Ryan Carr – 2028
After weeks of speculation and finalising contract details, Castleford have finally announced that Ryan Carr will be the man to take the Tigers forward in 2026 and beyond. The former Featherstone Rovers boss, who most recently worked as an assistant at St George Illawarra, has agreed a three-year contract, in what hopes to be a turning point for the club compared to recent seasons.
Catalans Dragons – Joel Tomkins – 2027
Tomkins signed a two and a half year deal in July to become the permanent Catalans coach, after stepping in on an interim basis when Steve McNamara was sacked. He has just one win to his coaching career so far, a home victory over Huddersfield Giants. But, with a new, younger squad in 2026, he hopes he can take the Dragons back to the top.
Huddersfield Giants – Luke Robinson – 2027
After taking charge on an interim basis in 2020 and again in 2024, ex-halfback Robinson was given the coaching reigns to his former side ahead of 2025. Things have not gone to plan in his first full season in charge, with injuries playing a huge factor across the season.
Hull FC – John Cartwright – 2027
After an announcement was made in May of last year, Cartwright linked up with the Black and Whites for 2025 and is helping them have a vastly improved season. Finishing second bottom last year, Hull are now in a play-off contending spot, and if they were to scrape into the six, it would be their highest finish since 2020.
Bringing in players such as Sam Lisone, along with the reported signings of James Bell and James Batchelor, Cartwright is building a strong squad as he looks to build on his first season in charge.
Hull KR – Willie Peters – 2028
The reigning Challenge Cup holders tied down Peters to a four-year contract extension part-way through last year, and is under contract until 2028. After rumours of NRL interest earlier this year, Peters looks committed to the Robins as they look to become one of the biggest teams in the league, both on and off-field.
Leeds Rhinos – Brad Arthur – 2026
From what started as a 10-game contract in the back-end of 2024 to what will be his second full season in charge next year, it is clear how crucial Brad Arthur is for Leeds. His most recent contract extension took months to sort out, as family reasons made him debate whether it was best to stay or return back to Australia.
Leigh Leopards – Adrian Lam – 2027
Joining the Leopards in their Championship-winning 2022 season, Lam has been an integral figure to Leigh’s recent rise up the table. Shrewd signings such as Tesi Niu, Owen Trout and Rob Mulhern and many more have been key to the club’s success. After signing a new deal last season, Lam commented on a five-year plan he had in place when he joined the club, it is clear that the 54-year-old is fully committed to bringing more silverware to Leigh Sports Village.
Salford Red Devils – Paul Rowley – 2025
Rowley made the decision last year that 2025 would be his final season as Salford Red Devils coach, as he would move to a Director of Rugby role in 2026. However, Salford’s issues this season have resulted in that future move becoming unclear.
St Helens – Paul Wellens – 2025
Perhaps Brad Arthur is the only coach to have more speculation on him this season, Saints legend Wellens’ future has been questioned by many across the year. Fans were calling for the sack part-way through the season, when the club lost three matches in a row to Wigan, Warrington and Leeds, however he now has his boyhood club in third place, and the final five games of the year will be crucial in deciding whether he stays or goes.
Wakefield Trinity – Daryl Powell – 2029
Signing a new deal this week alongside assistant Michael Shenton and future Director of Rugby, Ste Mills, Trinity have secured the long-term future of three key staff members. Wakefield are one of the most exciting and prosperous teams in the league, with big ambitions in becoming a regular playoff contender. With the experienced Powell at the helm, a man with over 430 career games coached, they are certainly heading in the right direction.
Warrington Wolves – Sam Burgess – 2026
The NRL legend signed a two-year extension in 2024, to remain at the club until the end of next season. This year hasn’t gone as hoped for the 36-year-old, and big changes will have to be made if he is to make his final year, under his current contract, a successful one. This is Burgess’ first senior coaching gig, after spending time as an assistant at the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Wigan Warriors – Matt Peet – 2030
The homegrown Wigan coach has worked his way through the Warriors’ ranks, starting as academy coach before being given the head coach role ahead of the 2022 season. Peet holds the longest contract in the league, after singing a seven-year deal in 2024. He hopes to add more success to the clubs illustrious history, after winning every trophy available to him in 2024.
