Ethan Havard potential return date revealed as Wigan Warriors boss discusses injury

Wigan Warriors

Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet expects to see Ethan Havard return to action next month. The Warriors saw Adam Keighran and Luke Thompson return from injury on Sunday as they saw off Hull FC 36-12 at the MKM Stadium to move back to within two points of league leaders Hull KR.

Both men played a key role in the victory and their presence in the side was welcomed by the head coach who praised both men after the contest. However, the Cherry and Whites are still waiting for the return of Havard, who is yet to see a minute of action this season.

The England international suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season training with Peet confirming the blow after the club’s win in the Challenge Cup at Sheffield Eagles back in February. The prognosis at the time was vague, with Peet saying he will be out for ‘a few months’ and that was two and a half months ago.

There’s light at the end of the tunnel for the prop, though, and Peet has high hopes that Havard could be set to miss just two more games with the trip to face Catalans Dragons earmarked as a potential return date. The match is scheduled to be played on May 24, with clashes against Warrington Wolves and Leigh Leopards in between.

Wigan Warriors’ Matt Peet on Ethan Havard’s return

“I think we’re looking at Catalans away,” Peet said when asked by Serious About RL about Havard.

“He’s still a few weeks away. He’s not back training with the team yet, I’ve had that in my head for him for a while, give or take.”

Given the amount of action he has missed, Havard might well be eased back into the action, but he’ll be keen to make swift progress and make his presence felt in the Wigan side. Wigan are second at present and look certain to be in the hunt for silverware once more over the second half of the campaign.

There’s the small matter of the Ashes to think about, too, and Havard will be keen to establish himself within Shaun Wane’s plans.
