England Rugby League reveal one-off “poppy-inspired” jersey for Ashes series

England Rugby League have released a special, one-off jersey for the upcoming Ashes series against Australia, and they will wear it in the final test match at AMT Headingley.

The kit, which is inspired by poppies to mark fallen war heroes, will be worn on November 8 at the third game of the series in Leeds, with that match being played one day before Remembrance Day.

In what is a predominantly red jersey, the kit features small poppies all across the front and is a tribute to soldiers lost at war, and represents those who fought for our country.

England will don the shirt worn in the test against Samoa last year  for the first two series, before switching to the special-edition kit for the final game.

In support of the Royal British Legion, £5 from every shirt sold will be donated to support the charity’s vital work with the Armed Forces community.

England captain, George Williams, spoke on his pride to wear his country’s colours, and said how this new jersey will mean even more to him, given what it represents.

He said: “Pulling on an England shirt always means a lot, but this one carries extra significance. It’s a chance for us to remember those who gave everything and to represent them with pride when we take the field at Headingley.”

The third Test of the ABK Rugby League Ashes will be played on Remembrance weekend, with both teams and the sport of Rugby League taking the chance of a poignant moment of reflection for players and fans alike.

Head coach, Shaun Wane, added: “Rugby League has deep roots in our communities, many of which have a proud history of military service. This shirt is a symbol of unity, respect and remembrance — values that sit at the heart of both the sport and the Armed Forces. We’re proud to support the Royal British Legion to deliver their incredible work.”

International shirts are ruined by sponsors logos. No thanks I’ll stick to my retro.
