England have lost the rugby league Ashes by a score of 3-0 leading to big pressure on head coach Shaun Wane, with fans decisive in their verdict.
Each Test has seen England improve but the results have all gone the same way with Australia winning each and every game with relative ease in the end.
Saturday’s final Test at Headingley ended 30-8 though the game was 12-8 until the hour mark with England camped in Australia’s half for much of that second period, however, an inability to score was punished as the Kangaroos scored three quickfire tries.
Reece Walsh scored a brace and Harry Grant scored one to make it 30-8 and cap off a disappointing series for the hosts with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” aimed at head coach Shaun Wane in the dying minutes.
With a World Cup year on the horizon, Serious About Rugby League have asked fans if Shaun Wane is the man to lead England into the tournament, with the answers fairly conclusive.
Fans answer whether Shaun Wane coach England at the 2026 World Cup?
Asking rugby league fans: “Should Shaun Wane coach England at the 2026 World Cup?,” there was a spectrum of answers but the overwhelming majority of the 240 comments (at time of writing) called for a change.
Among the plenty of “no” answers, a few suggestions of alternatives were made as well.
James Davies: Burgess, Graham and Morley joint coaching.
Shaun Michael: Emphatic no.
Terry Abel: He’s had his day unfortunately.
Michael Adlington: Australia are class. England played well but not in the same league as the Aussies. Not looking good for the World Cup. Shaun is a good coach but England needs a great Aussie coach to get the best out of the players.
James Enderby: No, needs a change now. It’s not all on him, we barely play any games. However, selection based on credit in the bank has not worked at all.
Mark Gomersell: Needs a younger guy more in touch with the game but the players need to look at themselves too, discipline on and off the field. Decisions were poor over three games. Better effort today though.
Georgina Barrett: He’s out of touch now. Needs someone with a better eye for picking those not just in form for a game at the end of the season.
Steve Buckley: The game has moved on since he was winning everything with Wigan. Coaching England is a different matter.
Mike Schofield: Yes, who else have we got?
Mark Ward: It wouldn’t matter who coached them.

He as to go as he stuck with an out of form Williams & played Bateman why ?
I agree with Burgess & Graham fabulous combination with an Aussie on board who knows both SL & NRL ( Willie Peters). We played rugby from 10 years ago need to modernise our approach & tactics. E literally had no point of difference Connor should have being selected and at least played at is home ground is no look pass could have led to line breaks not saying we would have won but at least with Connor & Lewis two exciting players.

Shouldn’t be in this position world Cup a year away and if wane was replaced it takes time to gel and we be back to square one so my opinion shaune should stay and yes we need a overall of new players or players who was left out that’s my opinion
