England centre hints at his NRL future following transfer rumours

England and NRL centre Herbie Farnworth on international duty

England and NRL centre Herbie Farnworth is impressing fans across the southern hemisphere and is a sure pick for Shaun Wane’s Ashes series later in the year.

The 25-year-old has been at the Dolphins since the start of the 2024 season, and with over 100 NRL games to his name already, he’s also closing in on 50 tries in the competition.

With just one year left on his deal at the Dolphins, he’s become a hot property in the transfer market for the 2027 season and beyond.

Farnworth insists he’s enjoying his time at the Redcliffe area, but there is plenty of talk of him becoming a marquee signing for new NRL franchise, Perth Bears, who will enter the competition in 2027.

Speaking to Australia’s AAP, he said: “I am very happy at the Dolphins. I am sure we can get a deal done.

“The Bears, I am pretty keen to play against them in the upcoming years, and I am sure they will be a great side. It is always nice to be wanted by different clubs, especially teams coming in, but we have got some great players here.

“I think I’d be a bit silly to pass up the opportunity to play with the likes of Jack Bostock and Izzy Katoa for the next couple of years, and all these great young players coming through, that will help the team set a high standard in the future. It would be nice to be part of that.”

He also thinks that a new franchise means that he’ll be joined by more of his England teammates in the NRL.

He added: “I am sure we will see a lot of Super League boys coming over from England. I am backing the club (Perth) and I am keen to see how it all pans out.”

Whilst Warrington Wolves’ Sam Burgess and Leeds Rhinos’ Brad Arthur have been rumoured to be on the shortlist for the Perth coaching job, Mal Meninga has also expressed an interest in the head coach role.
