England and NRL star Kai Pearce-Paul subject to racial abuse after social media post

Just days after a man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated abuse of Wigan Warriors forward Junior Nsemba, his England teammate and NRL star Kai Pearce-Paul has shared evidence that he’s been the victim of similar abuse.

In the aftermath of Wigan’s win over St Helens at Super League Magic Weekend a social media comment was made, and quickly condemned and shared, targeting Nsemba.

Both the RFL and Wigan launched statements to condemn the racist comments with an arrest subsequently made, though it’s since been confirmed that the suspect has been bailed subject to further investigation.

NRL star Kai Pearce-Paul has now taken to social media to highlight a racist comment made towards him following Wests Tigers’ latest loss, a game that the England international did not even play in.

Wests were on the end of a 32-6 loss at home to the Warriors this weekend marking their fourth loss in a row and though Pearce-Paul has not played in any of those four games after sustaining an injury back in mid-June, he’s sadly been the target of a racist comment.

Pearce-Paul shared an image of himself on Instagram, captioned ‘Brb’, meaning ‘Be right back’, presumably suggesting that he will swiftly make a return to the field after his injury.

He would then take to his Instagram story to highlight one of the comments made on that post in which the commenter suggested Wests should ‘put some white people in your team’, adding: “You might actually win.”

The comment has widely been condemned but at the time of writing, Wests Tigers or the NRL are yet to make a statement on the matter, though it is yet another vile example of racial abuse that the sport’s stars are subject to via the platform of social media.
