Championship side Keighley Cougars are set for some stadium upgrades across the season, and it has resulted in a change in their fixture list.
The Cougars, who will face Midlands Hurricanes in the third round of the Challenge Cup, are set to improve their current ground, Cougar Park, in order to make the fan experience at the stadia a more comfortable one.
Cougar Park has been the club’s home ground since the club’s inception in 1876, making it one of the oldest grounds still active in rugby league today.
Currently, the ground holds 7,800 fans, but with average crowds of around 1.000-2,000 the capacity of the venue is not expected to change.
What will be upgraded remains to be seen, but the Cougars have confirmed that stadium developments will take place this term.
Following news that Keighley’s home and away ties with both Midlands and Batley Bulldogs had been reversed, it left fans questioning why the decision.
Responding via X, the club confirmed that the schedule change is due to “potential ground improvements”.
The switch in fixtures means that Keighley don’t have a home game throughout August, so it is expected that that is when work will be completed.
They will now play the Hurricanes at home on March 29, and will travel down to Avery Fields on August 2, whilst they will now take on Batley at home on May 10 and away on August 16.
