Championship side Barrow Raiders will take on an international side as part of their pre-season preparations for 2026, as they celebrate one of their key men’s testimonials.
Shane Toal is a one-club man at the Raiders, having made his debut in 2015. Since then, he has featured 180 times for the Cumbrian side.
Scoring 89 tries, Toal is one of Barrow’s key men. The 30-year-old winger was rewarded for his service with a testimonial, with the final event of the celebrations coming in the shape of a pre-season friendly.
He has opted to take on Scotland RL in that match, after featuring for the national side three times in his career. One of those appearances came at the 2017 World Cup, as the Scots kept Samoa to a draw in the second round of the group stage.
The fixture is the latest pre-season match-up to be announced, and is the first by the Raiders as they prepare for the restructured Championship season that will see them take on sides that featured in both the second and third tiers this season.
In what is also a game that benefits Scotland, the national team are also preparing for a huge game against USA in Las Vegas in February. That match-up will take place on the same weekend as the NRL and Super League fixtures in the city, with the women’s and youth sides also travelling to take part, too.
The game will take place on Saturday 10th January at Barrow’s home ground, with a kick-off time of 3pm.
