London Broncos have reportedly shown an interest in signing NRL full-back Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad for next season. Nicoll-Klokstad is in the final year of his contract with New Zealand Warriors and is said to have been offered the chance to stay on with the side on a two-year deal.
However, he has Super League interest, with Catalans Dragons being linked with his signature, too, ahead of a potential move at the end of the season. The New Zealand Herald back up that Catalans interest, but the report also claims that London are keen.
The Championship outfit are on the verge of a takeover by a consortium of overseas investors, with departing Leeds Rhinos CEO Gary Hetherington helping to facilitate the deal. As such, the hope is the Broncos can make swift progress and with changes to Super League being mooted, they will be keen to demonstrate their value.
If the Broncos are seen as a potential Super League option for 2026, that could open the door for Nicoll-Klokstad to move to the capital and it would certainly provide a statement of intent from the club’s owners.
Nicoll-Klokstad ‘nearing’ decision amid Super League interest
Catalans can surely be considered front-runners at present should the New Zealand international decide his future lies in Super League with the club having the overseas quota spots and resources to bring the full-back to the Northern Hemisphere. However, London could well be serious challengers depending on what happens with Super League’s plan for expansion.
The report adds Nicoll-Klokstad is close to making a decision on his future and that could see him leave the NRL deal on the table.
The 29-year-old has been with the Warriors for two seasons and in that time he has made 45 appearances and scored 13 tries. He actually started his career at the Warriors before moving on to join Canberra Raiders in 2019, where he made his name in the NRL. He had 10 caps for the Kiwis under his belt.
