In a torrid blow, one Championship club have confirmed season-ending injuries for two key men, including a former Leeds Rhinos youth product.
Sheffield Eagles have been flying high in the Championship, though Craig Lingard’s side have lost three of their last four games, including this past weekend against the unbeaten London Broncos.
Those three defeats come following a perfect start to the season, a season that is set to get a lot tougher as key duo Matty Marsh and Jordan Lilley are set to miss the remainder of the year with knee injuries.
Marsh has been absent since the round seven loss to Oldham whilst Lilley went down under no contact in the round nine loss to Doncaster. The club have now taken to social media to confirm that both men will miss the rest of the season as they recover from knee injuries.
It means Craig Lingard loses two of his spine stars in a matter of weeks with full-back Marsh and half-back Lilley having played in every Championship match until their respective injuries.

Sheffield Eagles suffer double injury blow
A statement on social media confirmed the double blow, revealing: “Last week, it was confirmed that both Matty Marsh and Jordan Lilley will both be ruled out for the rest of the 2026 season with respective knee injuries.
“We’d like to wish them both a speedy recovery, and we hope to see them back out with the team as soon as possible.”
With full-backs so short on supply in Super League, it looks highly unlikely that the Eagles can find a like-for-like replacement for Marsh, whilst Lilley will be no easy fix either given his immense talent.
The 29-year-old debuted for Leeds Rhinos back in 2015 and went on to play 41 games for the Headingley club but he’s spent most of his career with Bradford Bulls, who he left at the end of last season as he remained playing part-time.
As for Marsh, the Hull-born talent played 42 games for Hull KR but spent the majority of his career at York before joining the Eagles in 2024, where he’s since scored 26 tries in 46 appearances.
Sheffield currently sit eighth in the Championship with five wins from eight and an 1895 Cup clash against Rochdale Hornets on the horizon.
