Challenge Cup semi-finalists recall loanee from Castleford Tigers amid injury concern

Ahead of this weekend’s Challenge Cup semi-finals, one side have recalled a player from his loan spell with Castleford Tigers.

That team is Catalans Dragons with the French outfit recalling prop Jordan Dezaria in a move that could suggest the injury sustained by captain Benjamin Garcia is not one that can be easily remedied.

Garcia left the field against Leigh Leopards with what Steve McNamara later confirmed as a groin injury with the skipper set to face a race to be fit for the Challenge Cup semi-final.

Catalans will take on Hull KR at York’s LNER Community Stadium on Saturday with the French side opting to stay in England after Magic Weekend, rather than travel back to Perpignan.

As such, Dezaria will be able to make the quick trip over from Castleford to link up with the rest of the squad with the Tigers not in action this weekend.

Jordan Dezaria’s Castleford Tigers loan ends

Confirmation of Dezaria’s recall came from Castleford Tigers who took to social media to update their fans.

Posting on X, they revealed: “Castleford Tigers can announce that Catalan Dragons have recalled Jordan Dezaria with immediate effect.

“Dezaria has joined the Dragons squad ahead of their Rugby Challenge Cup Semi-Final this weekend. This represents an end to his 28-day loan period with the Tigers.”

Head Coach Danny McGuire was quoted as saying: “Jordan was a welcome addition to our squad and worked hard during his month at the club, we’d welcome him back on a longer-term loan, should circumstances with the Dragons allow.”

Dezaria joined on loan at the same time as Hull FC’s Hugo Salabio with both men’s arrivals eclipsed by the huge coup of Castleford landing Tom Amone from the NRL, ahead of his move to Hull KR next year.

Whilst performances have improved in recent weeks for the Tigers, they were beaten comfortably at Magic Weekend with Danny McGuire labelling the performance as “really disappointing”.

As for Catalans, their narrow defeat was a tough one to take and the task gets tougher with Hull KR lined up this weekend. Should they be without captain Garcia then it would be a major blow to their chances, particularly given the likes of Tommy Makinson and Sam Tomkins also missed Magic.
