Former Hull FC prop Chris Satae has penned a contract extension with Catalans Dragons, the French club have confirmed. Satae has agreed a new one-year deal with the club and that ensures he will part of the Dragons line-up next season.
It looks set to be an off-season of change for Catalans, with the club needing to make a decision on their next head coach and the futures of a raft of senior players. The Dragons have four overseas players off contract, while the likes of Elliot Whitehead, Alrix Da Costa and Theo Fages are off-contract alongside the retiring Sam Tomkins.
Satae, though, knows how his short-term future looks, with the prop set to be a key figure at the club next season regardless of who’s in charge.
The deal takes him into a third year with the Perpignan outfit, having joined the club from Hull ahead of the 2024 Super League campaign. In the time that has passed since Satae has made 45 appearances for the club and scored six tries.
And, with his future secure, the prop will be keen to help the club kick on and finish the 2025 season on a positive note.
Catalans Dragons secure Chris Satae future
“First of all I would like to thank Bernard (Guasch) for giving me the opportunity to extend my time with the Dragons,” Satae told the club after extending. “I’m really grateful for it as I’ve grown to love this club and the community of Perpignan.
“I’m looking forward to contributing and helping to get this club back to where it belongs.”
Catalans head coach Joel Tomkins, who will be in charge until the end of the season at least, added: “I am delighted that Chris has agreed to extend his stay at the club. He is a big part of our team and club, a great professional and a role model to our younger players.”
Catalans currently sit ninth in the Super League table, after struggling for form over the entirety of the Super League season. They’re six points off the play-off pace and with 10 games remaining, the odds of a top six finish are against them.
