Catalans Dragons have announced the signing of Canterbury Bulldogs half-back Toby Sexton. The NRL star will join the Dragons in 2026 having penned a two-year deal with the club, ensuring he will be with the French club until the end of the 2027 season.
The deal can be seen as a huge coup for Catalans, who have today officially confirmed that Joel Tomkins will be their head coach until the end of the season at the very least. Sexton has been an ever-present for NRL high flyers Canterbury Bulldogs this season, making 14 appearances and scoring two tries for the club.
He’s due to wear the number seven shirt tomorrow, too, when the Doggies, who are level on points with league leaders Canberra Raiders at present, host Brisbane Broncos at the Accor Stadium.
However, his future has been up in the air due to the arrival of Lachlan Galvin from Wests Tigers, who is expected to take the role on next season and with Sexton’s contract up at the end of the year, Catalans have swooped.
“I’m super pumped to be joining the Catalans Dragons for the following season and can’t wait for what’s ahead,” Sexton said after agreeing to join the club.

Head coach Tomkins added: “Toby is an exciting young half with a strong kicking game, excellent game management, and composure under pressure. He’s already showing that he can perform at the top NRL level, and I believe he’s only going to get better.
“His attitude, professionalism, and competitive nature will be a great fit for our squad and the culture we want to build within the team.”
Sexton has been a regular in the NRL since breaking through with Gold Coast Titans in 2021. He made 24 appearances for the Titans before moving on to join Canterbury and he has spent the last two seasons as a key man under Cameron Ciraldo.
There has been speculation surrounding the future of Luke Keary at Catalans with All Out Rugby League claiming this season could be his last with the club. And, with a raft of senior names off contract at the end of the year, including overseas figures such as Reimis Smith, Tariq Sims and Tevita Pangai Jr, Sexton could well find himself spearheading a fresh start for the Dragons.
